Summary

The Human Resources Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, controlling and evaluating the operations of the Human Resources department. They will implement and enforce policies, programs and procedures regarding human resource planning, recruitment, training and development, compensation, and benefit administration. This individual will also be responsible for all aspects of payroll including verifying timesheets, processing the payroll on a weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly basis, and ensuring compliance with all applicable federal and provincial regulations, and company policies.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, direct, and control the operations of the human resources department and payroll for all three companies
  • Process payroll on a weekly basis for union workers, bi-weekly basis for one division, and monthly basis for three other companies
  • Maintains a wide variety of payroll information, files and records in written and electronic formats for the purpose of providing an up-to-date reference and audit trail for compliance
  • Assist with determining staffing requirements and conduct the recruitment process including screening, performing interviews, reference checks, and preparing offer letters
  • Prepare all information and set-up required for on-boarding of new hires
  • Oversee all personnel management, including wage increases, promotions, and disciplinary actions in compliance with company policies
  • Assist in the development and implementation of policies, programs and procedures
  • Determine areas of improvement for employees and providing additional training as needed
  • Handle employee complaints and incidents, including conflict resolution, accidents, and health and safety concerns
  • Provide leadership and coaching to managers and employees on key workplace matters such as performance management, difficult conversations, employee relations, and employee development
  • Manage salary structure, position documentation, and an evaluation system
  • Ensure effective exit interviews are completed and provide management with analysis and recommendations
  • Administer the performance management program and ensure deadline dates are met
  • Manage and administer company benefits programs (health & dental benefits, RSP, Health Spending Account, Lifestyle Account, & Employee Family Assistance Program)
  • Manage and record employee recognition and anniversaries
  • Prepare and complete WCB and Worksafe BC annual returns
  • Complete applications and weekly reporting for the Workshare program provided by the Government of Canada (Service Canada) if required
  • Tracking the use of the corporate company condos and making reservations for employees
  • Keeping track of employee time off requests and updating staff calendar
  • Sending employee announcements (new hires, terminations, births)
  • Analysis of the monthly staff survey results and distribution of results to management
  • Plan and organize staff events and recreational activities

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in a field related to personnel management, such as business administration, industrial relations, commerce or psychology.
  • Completion of a professional development program in Human Resources required
  • 5 years of human resources and payroll experience required
  • Proven ability to build strong working relationships, internal and external to the organization
  • Experienced in all aspects of recruitment
  • Well-developed coaching and leadership skills, both on a formal and informal basis
  • Demonstrated work knowledge of multiple human resource areas preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to provide beneficial recommendations to solve HR related issues related to regulations, laws and policies
  • Effective communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times
  • Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently
  • Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and e-mail required
  • Excellent time and project management skills
  • Attention to detail in all areas of work

Detailed Job Description

Precision Group of Companies, consisting of Precision Engineering and Precision Forensics is a privately owned, independent Canadian company based in Edmonton, Alberta that specializes in design engineering as well as structural and industrial forensics, fire and explosion investigation, origin and cause investigation, and structural design engineering.

We are currently looking for a Design and Forensic Structural Engineer who is detail-oriented and passionate about design and forensic engineering with work ethic and drive to learn in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for structural design engineering and forensic investigations, including building code compliance assessments and designing structural repairs.  This position will have the opportunity to work on challenging and rewarding projects in areas such as industrial, oil and gas, commercial, residential, institutional and bridges.  Having the opportunity to work on both design and forensic projects offers a diverse range of project types.

 Job Duties:

  • Project coordination which includes, cost, scope and schedule
  • Engineering design of steel, concrete and wood structures for multi-family residential and commercial buildings.
  • Investigating structural and other failures, including fire damaged structures.
  • Analysis and structural design for remediation.
  • Preparation of engineering deliverables including, calculations, measurements, markup drawings, review of evidence photos and failure analysis as required
  • Report writing of findings and conclusions
  • Communicate with clients and contractors as required

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with a Structural elective from an accredited institution
  • Registered as a P.Eng with APEGA
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience with structural design and/or building construction.
  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to prioritize and plan work
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Experience with structural analysis software (STAADPro) is an asset.
  • Strong independent work ethic and positive team attitude
  • Experience with the following design standards:
    • CSA S16
    • CSA A23.3
    • CSA O86

Working Conditions:

  • Office environment
  • Worksite visits with exposure to all types of weather conditions
  • Working in hazardous conditions, i.e., uneven and wet surfaces, confined spaces, heights. Out of town travel as required.
  • Must be able to stand and/or walk for long periods of time. Must be able to kneel, squat or bend.
  • Have the ability to climb, crawl, stoop, kneel, reaching/working overhead,
  • Be able lift/carry up to 20 pounds. Be able to push/pull some items as required.
  • Has own vehicle capable of transporting 4’ telescoping ladder
  • Be able to drive up to 4 hours per day
